Members of Congress are hungry for constituent input, especially from constituents who are viewed as trusted sources of information. That’s where you come in. Science plays a critical role in informing policy, but it’s not always obvious how scientists can best engage with policymakers. Below are the opportunities that the ASA, CSSA, and SSSA Science Policy offers to Society members to help them engage in advocacy.

Advocacy Action Center

  • Action alerts are an easy and effective way for Society members to engage with Congress, with just a few clicks, a phone call, or even a tweet.
  • See what issues ASA, CSSA, and SSSA are engaged in right now.

Congressional Visits Day

  • In-person advocacy from constituents is the most effective and impactful form of advocacy.
  • Congressional Visits Day is an annual event that brings nearly 70 ASA, CSSA, and SSSA members to Washington D.C. to meet with their Members of Congress and advocate for agricultural research funding.

SEED Ambassador Program

  • Don’t think that the only way to engage with policymakers is by coming to D.C.
  • Every Member of Congress has a district or state office with staff members who meet with constituents every day.
  • The Scientists Engaging and Educating Decisionmakers (SEED) Ambassador program is a year-long, advocacy leadership program designed to help Society members develop relationships with policymakers.
